Earlier this week we went through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lfgdating.com\/gamer-dating-blog\/dating-after-a-breakup-gamers-2026\">what the research says about dating after a breakup<\/a> (short version: there&#8217;s no waiting period, readiness is a condition, not a date) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lfgdating.com\/gamer-dating-blog\/rebound-vs-ready-signs\">seven measurable signs of rebound versus ready<\/a>. This post is the part where you do something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s a run, not a countdown. Fourteen days, five stages, one job per stage. Two rules before you start:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The stages are gated.<\/strong> You don&#8217;t skip the respec and go straight to swiping. That&#8217;s how people end up dating at their ex instead of dating a person.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>You can quit any stage, and it still counts.<\/strong> If a day feels wrong, stop. That&#8217;s not failure. That&#8217;s data about where you are, and it&#8217;s the most useful data you&#8217;ll get all week.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Days 1\u20132: The save-file audit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first job is the least fun and the most important, and it&#8217;s mostly done with your thumb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Go through every channel that still routes to your ex and close it. Mute, unfollow, archive. Their profile, their friends&#8217; tagged photos, the Discord you both haunted, the game where their name is still on your friends list. You are not deleting history. You&#8217;re closing tabs. The research case is in Wednesday&#8217;s post; the summary is that every check-in resets your progress, and you can&#8217;t start a new run while the old save is auto-loading in the background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then the inventory. Two short lists. One: things you kept from that relationship that you&#8217;re glad to have. A hobby they got you into, a thing about yourself you learned. Two: things you&#8217;re putting down. The point isn&#8217;t the lists; it&#8217;s noticing that the first one exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Quit signal:<\/strong> if you can&#8217;t close the channels, if you find yourself un-muting &#8220;just to check,&#8221; you&#8217;re not on Day 1. Come back when you can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Days 3\u20135: Respec<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In most RPGs, a respec lets you reassign the points you already earned. You don&#8217;t lose levels. You redistribute them. That&#8217;s the whole job of these three days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Day 3: finish the sentence &#8220;I am\u2026&#8221; ten times. Nothing that routes through the relationship. Not &#8220;I am someone&#8217;s ex.&#8221; Not &#8220;I am the person who used to.&#8221; If you stall at four, that&#8217;s the gap, and the next two days are for closing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Day 4: reclaim one solo thing. The game you shelved because they hated the sound of it. The book series. The gym at the hour that was inconvenient for two people and is perfect for one. Do it once, this week, without announcing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Day 5: reclaim one social thing. Text the friend you went quiet on. Show up to raid night, board game night, the thing that had &#8220;we&#8217;ll see&#8221; attached to it for a year. The people who knew you before the relationship are the fastest way back to knowing yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Quit signal:<\/strong> if &#8220;I am\u2026&#8221; comes up almost entirely empty, spend more time here. It&#8217;s the one stage where taking longer measurably helps, and it&#8217;s more important than anything downstream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Days 6\u20138: Character creation, but honest<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now the profile. Three rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Build the current you, not the last patch.<\/strong> If you&#8217;re rebuilding a profile from a previous era, delete it and start clean. The games you list should be the games you&#8217;re playing <em>now<\/em>, including the one you reclaimed on Day 4. On a gamer dating site that&#8217;s not a detail. It&#8217;s the whole opener.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The one-photo rule.<\/strong> At least one photo from the last month, of you doing something you like. It&#8217;s the profile telling the truth about Day 4 and Day 5. People can tell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What stays out of the bio.<\/strong> The ex. The breakup. &#8220;Not looking for drama.&#8221; Anything that describes what you&#8217;re leaving instead of what you&#8217;re walking toward. Low stakes, on purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal is not a date. The goal is to find out what talking to someone new feels like from the inside, and to notice one specific thing: whether it feels like <em>fun<\/em> or like <em>proving<\/em>. Fun is &#8220;wait, you&#8217;re stuck on the same boss?&#8221; Proving is a message you&#8217;d want your ex to see. If you catch yourself writing the second kind, don&#8217;t send it. Note it. That&#8217;s a Day 1 problem resurfacing, and it means one more pass through the audit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The other flag to watch for is comparison. If your first reaction to a good conversation is &#8220;they&#8217;re funnier than,&#8221; &#8220;they&#8217;re less than,&#8221; stop the sentence. The new person isn&#8217;t a patch note for the old one. Done with the part where you needed one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rage-quit rules<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some days you&#8217;ll hit a wall. Here&#8217;s the protocol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Stop the run.<\/strong> Don&#8217;t push through a stage that feels wrong. The gates exist so you find out where you actually are, not where you wish you were.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Read the death screen.<\/strong> A wall at Day 1 means the channels aren&#8217;t closed. A wall at Day 3 means the self-concept work isn&#8217;t done. A wall at Day 12 means you&#8217;re ready to talk and not yet ready to meet, which is a perfectly good place to be.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Restart from the stage, not from zero.<\/strong> You keep everything you cleared. That&#8217;s the New Game+ part.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>If the wall isn&#8217;t a stage, it&#8217;s a mood.<\/strong> If what&#8217;s stopping you is a low that isn&#8217;t lifting, or that&#8217;s getting in the way of sleep, work and food, that&#8217;s not a dating problem and a dating blog is the wrong tool. Talk to a health care provider.
