This week was spooky season, played as a date night: what makes a horror game worth sharing with someone, what the famous fear-and-attraction story really showed, and how to keep the whole thing fun for both players. Here’s everything we covered, in one place.

Monday: The Complete Guide to Horror Game Date Night

The pillar. The popular idea that being scared makes you fall for someone is overstated, and we say so up front. The better case for a horror game date night is simpler: it’s a shared experience, and you can calibrate it together, from how scary to how long to when you stop. We walk through picking a game, setting the level, and what to do when the night goes sideways.

Tuesday: Does Fear Make You Fall for Someone?

Everyone has heard about the 1974 bridge study. We went back to see what it actually showed, what later analyses said about it, and which parts of the legend held up. Short version: the story is tidier than the evidence, and we found no meta-analysis or direct replication that settles it.

Wednesday: Scary Games vs. Cozy Games

A head-to-head for date night. Scary games bring tension, shared reactions and a built-in story to retell. Cozy games bring pace, room to talk and almost no one bailing early. We scored the matchup and landed on a hybrid verdict: it depends on the two of you, and you can use both in one evening.

Thursday: The Scariest Thing We Ever Did Was Hit Launch

Casey on the parts of building LFGdating that would sound scary if you read them off a list: the phone call that started it, the nights spent across time zones, opening the beta, and the day the first member signed up while he was on an elliptical. It’s the founder post for a week about fear, and it stays honest about what it cost.

Friday: How to Play Scary Games With a Date

The playbook. Agree on a pause word before you start, use a simple comfort scale so neither of you has to guess, and treat opting out as a normal move that needs no explanation. We also cover why age ratings don’t tell you how scary a game is, and include a photosensitivity note: if flashing lights are a concern for you, check the platform’s health warning and talk to a doctor.

Saturday: Spooky Season by the Numbers

What public data says about Halloween and gaming, with every figure traced to its source. We also list the numbers we refused to repeat, including the ones that circulate widely without a primary source behind them, because a missing source is part of the story.
