Esquire has been around the block a few times. If you’ve got a first date coming up that you’re pumped about (I would hope you would be excited; if not, why are you going?), then choosing what to wear can be an issue. Us guys usually have a handful of go-to shirts, usually of the button-down variety, and the typical first date attire usually rounds out with a nice(r) pair of jeans, and a pair of brown or black shoes. But just like our editorial feature on the proper method to employing your favorite cologne, dressing for the occasion isn’t always as easy as you think. Cleanliness is always first priority, with your person and the clothes that will anchor your first impression. T-shirts should also almost always be avoided; I know that may sound frustrating, but by no means should you go to the complete opposite end of the spectrum and throw on that tux. Be yourself, be clean, and be on time.
