Borderlands 4 Has Too Many Buttons

Yeah I said it.

When I play Borderlands, I just want to shoot bad guys in the head and blow them up. I want to no scope a guy running at me with an axe, I want to phase blast someone into Valhalla, and I want to I watch someone decompose when I blow up a corrosive barrel next to them. What I don’t want to do is have more buttons I need to push when I’m trying do these fun things.

I get it. More functionality. More things to do. But I don’t want more things to do, I just want to kill more things using the functionality I have. Like Caboose said in Red vs. Blue, “Why are there 6 pedals when there’s only 4 directions?

Don’t get me wrong – I love the critical headshots and the phase shift balls of electricity that I can throw at people. It’s just that the electricity moves at half the speed of a Golden Girl (love me some Blanche tho) and never really hits all that hard. But can we just come to terms with the fact that Borderlands 1 was the shit, Borderlands 2 got better in some ways and worse in a few others, and the other 2 were just derivations that just didn’t hit the mark?

I still love the series. And I was amped for this game to release. The original Borderlands will forever live as the game that got me through a tough summer in my personal life. Borderlands 2 was the game that reconnected me with an old friend. Worst case is the last 2 games just weren’t that good.

So for the love of everything that is Holy and Right in this world, can Borderlands just let me blow up stuff without hitting every button on the freaking controller?

Seriously though the extra buttons needed to kill things is outrageous.

Guess not. And that’s going to have to be ok. Because while I’m disappointed in the gameplay, it’s keeping my attention enough to just move along in the story as quickly as I can to use the buttons I do want to use.
